God Speaks in the Clay God told Yermeyahu to go down to the potter's house. There he would learn theology by seeing! Clay consist of two elements, the same as man, dust and water, and there must be a proper balance of both. Clay must be wedged to soften, to wake up its particles, to eliminate air bubbles, to make the clay homogenous. Man, must also be treated roughly -so it seems- by His creator. Clay is then thrown down on the wheel, the wheel is kicked, and the work begins. Of course, the potter already has a vessel in mind, one of honor, one for serving food or drink. The clay is centered to lie quietly in the palms, the clay is opened or given a heart, the clay is disciplined or built up, and the clay once trimmed is set and placed in the fire. Whew! The clay goes through alot to be the glory of its potter. The clay is now a vessel for serving and it is an honor to serve!
